She stands behind the famous red curtain. Her silhouette is all the audience sees and all they know of her. Her name is never mentioned in the playbill or called after the performance. She is just the girl behind the curtain. Her initial thoughts of going into the acting business were "Hollywood." now she realizes the real world is not as easy as the movies made it seem. She wants to work her way to the top to become the lead. The longer she stays behind the stage pulling the curtain back and forth the more she realizes she will not reach the top. She had always dreamed of being recognized on the streets as the leading lady. Walking the sidewalks of the Big Apple she knows she is just another magazine on the shelf. Someone seen but not recognized or even acknowledged. Lucy is her name but no one besides her family knows that. Even at home she is ignored like a ghost on the couch. She is just another person in the house of no importance. Another disappointment in a family full of unfortunate dreamers. All she ever wanted was to be recognized by the people of New York. She is only seen as a foreigner who does not belong in this country. She knows she is lucky to have a job even one so insignificant. Others like her are seen as they are ghosts and everyday magazines. She only wishes to be seen and no longer ignored by everyone. She too is just another magazine another ghost another silhouette. She is seen as a non-contributor only seen and never heard. She is replaceable and she knows it. She pours her heart and soul into the miniscule tasks she is asked to do. Her work ethic is the only thing keeping her a part of this meaningless job. She only dreams of being in the limelight but she will always be another magazine and a ghost and another silhouette.
