Kelly Chesson, Informal Writing #2

My 10 rules/goals for writing

11.   Try to break out of your comfort zone. You know that you’re good at research papers and things that are logical, and you tend to psych yourself out about creative things. Don’t feel as much like creative writing is against you; give it a chance.
22.  Work on vocabulary. Look up words that you don’t know, and use a thesaurus when you become too repetitive. Word choice makes a big difference.
33.  Go to the writing center if you have trouble with anything. You are very independent and hate asking for help, but sometimes you will need help. Writing isn’t your strongest subject; so if you need help, get help.
44.  Don’t procrastinate. If you write your assignments early on, then you will have more time to look them over before submitting them.
55.  Get other people to proof read your assignments. You make a lot of careless errors that other people will catch for you.
66.    Don’t skip steps in the writing process, especially prewriting. Prewriting helps you come up with ideas and organize them. You always tend to skip this step and just start writing.
77.   Be more descriptive. Details and imagery make the story. Take the extra time to add more details and descriptions.
88.   Get in a quiet place when you’re going to write. You get distracted very easily, so find a quiet place with no distractions when it comes to writing.
99.  Learn more about semi colons. You tend to use commas when you should use semi colons, and you only know that because teachers tell you and computers correct it. Learn it and use it!
110. Learn how to conclude your papers better. As a kid, that was when you would just summarize, but now it’s more than that. Make your conclusion/ending count.
