Nick Huntington, Informal writing #1

The water rushed over her like a waterfall, as she stood in an almost trance like state. She loses herself in the emptiness of her mind, and for a moment she could forget that beyond this safe vinyl curtain was another day she’ll be begging to come to an end from the moment her wet feet touch the tile.
                “Kaitlin it’s 6:45!”

Suddenly she is back to reality, much to her dismay she has to leave her sanctuary, free from stress, free from the world.  She takes her time getting ready, knowing what lies ahead, but the voice bellowing from downstairs is too insistent, and she makes it to the bus on time.  Kait steps onto the bus, each step gets heavier and heavier until she turns and the whole bus is in view.  The panic sets in, luckily her house is near the beginning of the route so there are plenty of empty seats, but Kait dreads the day that may come when the bus will be too crowded.  She sits down in an empty seat, puts in her headphones, and enters her next sanctuary.  Before long more kids get on, and by chance someone sits next to her.  Kait doesn't mind, her headphones make her safe, she needs to drown out the whispers in her head. Minutes pass and as she looks down she sees an alarming message on her screen, “Your device is now running on reserve power, please connect to a power source”. She panics, without her sanctuary the ride is unbearable, the piecing silence, and the whispers in her head make her thoughts race and her heart pound Each new person on the bus makes the pressure in her head build until she can’t exist in her own body anymore She leaves it, floating above herself in terror, until the rushing of the pneumatic brakes, and the jolting of the bus pull her back. She regains control, and puts her emotional mask on as she prepares to exit the bus.  Kait is invisible, and she would like to keep it that way.
