“10 Rules of Writing”
Jordan Tawney
1.
I will try to use
one new vocabulary word for every piece of writing I create.
-This
will help me expand my vocabulary and add quality to my papers that might not
have been there before.
2.
I will go to the
writing center for help when I am struggling.
-Going
to the writing center will get me the practice and help I need when I am
confused about something as well as getting to know people that have more
experience in the writing department.
3.
I will work on
using more complex sentences.
-Using
complex sentences will make my writings sound better as well as forcing me to
use more detail, which will help the flow of the paper.
4.
I will make
myself think outside my usual box when coming up with ideas for writing.
-This
will expand my creativity as well as make me think about things in new ways and
escape from the same ideas over and over again.
5.
I will find
friends to peer review with.
-Peer
reviewing will give my paper the chance to get tweaked before the final copy as
well as giving me the opportunity to see what others have done in their papers
that I might have overlooked in mine.
6.
I will write
multiple rough drafts.
-Writing
multiple rough drafts will force me to review my paper several times to assure
that there are no mistakes as well as giving me a chance to add any last minute
details.
7.
I will read my
writings out loud.
-Reading
out loud will help me get a better sense of what my paper is saying as well as
helping me catch any ideas that might not flow as well as I thought.
8.
I will use a
dictionary.
-Using
a dictionary will assure me that I am using words in the right context as well
as helping me find better words to use that I might not have thought of before.
9.
I will reference
other books to get ideas.
-Using
other books will give me a sense of what previous authors have done in their
writings and may help educate me on the topic I am writing about.
10. I will go to
the library when writing a paper.
- I need peace
and quiet when writing and the library would be the perfect place to go to help
me reach my full thinking potential.
