Heather LaFrance, Informal Writing #1

Francesca stood behind the curtain, and the judges eagerly awaited her entrance on stage. She had been dreaming of this moment ever since she was a child, while her mother had only hoped that she would find a talent so that they could use her as a trophy for the rest of her extended family to admire. Her parents had believed that this moment would be when Francesca proved herself to be a talented enough dancer to be admitted into one of the most top rated dancing schools in the United States, but Francesca had a different plan up her sleeve.
Francesca wished ever since she was a child to become a math teacher one day, but her mother had always pushed for her to become a dancer. Her mother tried to become a dancer when she was a child, but she had injured her ankle and was never able to dance again. Francesca had another dream working as a math teacher in a middle school, but her mother wanted to live out her dream through her daughter.
Francesca was deep in thought, but the judges interrupted to call her out on stage. Her parents started cheering her name, and she made her entrance on stage. Her mother watched expectantly, and Francesca avoided making eye contact with her. She began her dance routine, and the judges started making marks on their sheets. Francesca was dancing beautifully, but her heart was beating a million miles an hour. She wanted to follow through with her plan so that she could live out her dream by studying mathematics at a regular university, but her mother would be so crushed. Francesca purposefully tripped to ruin her dance routine and fail the try outs, and her mother gasped as she watched her daughter fall to the ground. Her mother was devastated as the judges shook their heads disappointedly, but Francesca knew that finally she had the chance of living out her dream.
