Nate Largo, Informal Writing #1

Very few know of my secret, and I am uneasy as the handful that do know have not yet ceased hunting me. But now I release my secret to those who find this document, for I have harbored my secret for so long. I feel that my death crawls closer with each shortened breath I breathe, and my life nears its end. I have lived on the Earth for a long time, and before that I lived for longer in another world. I am not human, nor am I even mortal. I am an immortal being, yet I am not invulnerable.
Please excuse me, for I am hurried and probably not making complete sense. I was the last of eighteen children to be born in my family, but you must understand that in my tribe, having more than seventeen children was considered to be an offense to Disvoni. We all followed Disvoni, for he was the fifth prophet of the Divine One. My tribe followed and trusted Disvoni, and he led our people through wars, plagues, droughts, even dispelled death itself. However, my existence was not welcome in my tribe, and I was to be sacrificed on the seventeenth day of my life. My mother conformed to the rules, and what a heartless wretch she was. My uncle stole me on the sixth night, and we fled to a distant cavern. On the next day, when my mother discovered that I had gone missing, she spiraled into a panic, and soon thereafter went directly to Disvoni and told him of the situation. Disvoni too went into a panic and immediately dispatched fifteen search groups to discern my location and bring me back, for if I was not sacrificed on the seventeenth day the Divine One’s wrath would become known and he would strike my tribe dead. My uncle worked at the Space Research and Interstellar Travel facility, and on the eleventh day he was able to sneak a .4c Travel Pod back to the cavern we called home. We took off on the sixteenth day after necessary flight preparations were made, and we began the journey to the nearest inhabitable planet, what you humans call Earth.
After forty-six years of travel we finally touched down on the green planet, yet our relief was short lived. A week later, 11 search vessels entered Sol’s gravity well, and they each launched dozens of pods toward Earth, each of which was filled with several of my kind, hungry for my death. The phenomenon was passed off as nothing more than a meteor shower to you, but I was in incredible danger. I was now being hunted by the fiercest of my kind, and I later learned that because I was still breathing, my home world was barren, and any life that started on it would be quickly terminated by the Divine One’s wrath.

My uncle has been killed, and I now spend my life in hiding. I have been hiding for 87 years and can no longer continue, so I sit behind the red curtains of my window with a gun to my head, ready to end it all.
