Informal writing #5
The two articles that I want to talk about are <Why
dose College cost too much and Why Do So Many Pundits Get It Wrong? >and
<There is no college tuition bubble>.
1. How effective are the
arguments used?
I find the first article has a very effective argument
in the title. Because she used two question as her title and these two
questions can express her opinion very effectively and vividly. The second
article used a very confirmed form “there is no ….” to show where he stand. So
authors used different method to express their argument effectively.
2. For example, how does each
article cater to its audience?
The author of the first article frequently use sentences
like “if you are a ….” “let us put …”. Besides she used enormous questions as the
beginning of many paragraphs, and she listed countless examples to express and
strengthen her idea. As for the second author, he used many vivid example to
explain his idea, and I think it makes audience feel more understandable about
the article.
3. I do not think so, I think
both of these authors have the same idea, they think some of these university
are expensive, but there are many way like scholarship to solve the problem,
and besides community colleges are a good way too.
4. Does
one fall short due to not taking into account one of the rhetorical appeals?
No,
I do not think so, both authors used enough rhetorical appeals. For example,
both of them used pathos to explain the problem by their own experience, and
both of them used logos and ethos. So I think one fall short is not due to not
taking into account one of the rhetorical appeals. I think the second one is
shorter because it does not have as much example and facts as the first one.
5. Does one article resonate with you more
strongly than the other?
I
think the first one dose, because the author used countless facts to improve
her idea and at the end of her article, she even has a list about more facts,
and this makes her idea more persuasive.
6. Is this because you already agreed with the
subject or because of the persuasiveness of the writing?
I already
agreed with the writing but it is also because of the persuasive of the
writing.
